What can Hall sensors test

A Hall sensor is a magnetic sensing device based on the Hall effect, which can detect magnetic fields and their changes, and convert these changes into electrical signals for output. Due to the direct or indirect relationship between magnetic fields and various physical quantities, Hall sensors can be applied in a wide range of testing and measurement scenarios.

Specifically, Hall sensors can be used to test the following:

Magnetic field strength and direction: The basic application is to directly measure the magnitude and direction of static or dynamic magnetic fields, suitable for scientific research, geological exploration, magnetic field mapping, and other fields.

Current measurement: By placing a Hall sensor next to a conductor, the magnetic field generated by the current passing through the conductor can be indirectly measured, and the magnitude of the current can be calculated. This method is particularly suitable for non-contact measurement of high currents.

Position and displacement: Moving Hall sensors or vice versa at positions marked with magnetic fields can accurately measure absolute or relative position and displacement, widely used in automation equipment, precision instruments, elevator door control, etc.

Rotational speed and speed: Hall sensors are installed on rotating components such as motors, fans, and gears to detect changes in magnetic fields and calculate rotational speed or cumulative speed. They are used in monitoring systems for automobiles and industrial equipment.

Proximity detection: As a proximity switch, when a magnetic object approaches or moves away from a Hall sensor, changes in the magnetic field will trigger changes in the sensor's output state. It is used in fields such as access control systems, security alarms, and automatic control.

Angle measurement: Placing multiple Hall sensors at positions where angles need to be measured can achieve accurate measurement of angles, such as in applications such as servos and robot joints.
Flow velocity and wind speed: Hall sensors can indirectly measure the flow velocity of fluids or gases by placing a medium with magnetic particles in the fluid or using wind to drive a magnetic rotor.

Electronic compass: In navigation and positioning systems, Hall sensors can serve as one of the core components to help determine the direction and position of the device.

Magnetic material detection: Hall sensors can be used to detect the magnetic properties of materials and distinguish different types of metals or magnetic impurities in quality control and material sorting processes.
